The method involves monitoring an image from a camera device (110) on a vehicle (100). The image is analyzed through clear path detection analysis to determine a clear path of travel within the image. A road geometry data is monitored. The road geometry data is analyzed to determine an impact of a data to the clear path and to detect lane markers of a current road being traveled upon. The clear path is modified based upon the analysis of the road geometry data. The clear path is utilized in navigation of the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a system for detecting a clear path of travel for a vehicle.
