The seat (1) has an airbag device (9) filled with gas and provided in a central region (6) of a backrest (2). Inflatable airbag devices (7, 8) are provided in parts (4, 5) of the backrest. Geometry of the seat is changeable by exhausting the gas from the airbag device and blowing up of the inflatable airbag devices such that distance of the central region from vehicle-fixed parts is increased, and distance of the parts of the backrest from a vehicle-firm part is reduced, where the vehicle-fixed parts are arranged before the central region. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling a vehicle seat.
