The valve (18) has a valve seat (24) and a locking element (20) which is released upon reaching a pre-determined opening pressure. A permanent magnet is equipped in the valve seat, which possesses ferromagnetic properties. The locking element seals the valve seat at an opening pressure which is less than the releasable opening pressure. An independent claim is also included for a pumping device for use as a feed pump of a high pressure pumping system in a high-pressure fuel injection system.
