The unit has an axial piston internal combustion engine (A) provided with cylinders (GZ) arranged on a pitch circle and fixed to a housing (G). A piston (K) is longitudinally movable in the cylinders and stays in operative connection with a rotating lift disk (T) of a rotor assembly (R). An electrical machine (E1) stays in drive connection with the rotor assembly. The electrical machine and an additional electrical machine (E2) are adjacent to each other and arranged coaxial to a rotation axis (D) of the rotor assembly at an axial end of the engine. The electrical machine is designed as a flywheel-starter-generator.
