The method involves moving a cleaning device (1) over a tool part (6) i.e. shaft, and/or moving the tool part into the device such that a defined annular gap (5) is obtained between the tool part and the device, where the gap exhibits a distance of less than 1 mm at a narrow point between the device and the tool part. The gap is subjected with liquid or gaseous medium i.e. compressed air, with high speed by the device such that impurities are distributed at an end of the annular gap, where the speed is speed of sound or supersonic speed. An independent claim is also included for a device for automated cleaning of a shaft of a machine tool.
