The method involves clamping a socket (10) into a holding device (22), and a shaft (18) into a holding device (24). The shaft is inserted into a feed through (16) of the socket, where the diameter of the shaft is slightly smaller than the diameter of the feed through. Fluid medium e.g. motor vehicle engine oil, is brought into a gap (20) between the socket and the shaft. The shaft is rotated with a defined speed relative to the socket such that a laminar flow of the fluid medium is adjusted in the gap. The torque acting on the socket is measured for determining a value defining the gap. An independent claim is also included for a device for measurement of a feed through in a socket.
