The device (10) has a pushrod (12) arranged between a motor-side drive and a crank (14) for driving a wiper arm. A spring clip (24) supports wiping movement of the wiper arm. The crank drives the wiper arm with spring force provided by the clip. The clip is clamped when the crank is transferred into an end position (28) and is released when the crank is transferred into another end position (40), which corresponds with a lower turning position of the wiper arm. The clip exhibits a spring curve that is progressive to an upper turning position during forward movement of the wiper arm.
