The device (1) has a power supply (6) e.g. laser generator, for emitting and aligning radiation or energy pulse (26) on fuel (8) between a contacting area (14) of an electronic and/or mechanical component (7) and a pad (15) at a side (3) of a substrate (2) i.e. printed circuit board. A sensor element (20) measures energy set free with the reaction of fuel. A movable stored planar desk is arranged below a substrate transportation unit (5) and/or underneath the substrate. The power supply is arranged in the device beside the planar desk. The fuel is formed as reactive exothermic fuel. An independent claim is also included for a method for checking a thermal connection of a contacting area of an electronic and/or mechanical component at a pad on a side of a substrate.
