The gear (1) has rack gears (3) translatory movable in a longitudinal direction and a steering pinion (4) rotatable around center of rotation (Z). The steering pinion comprises a free-form whose rolling curve exhibits pinion with angle-dependent and variable distance from the center of rotation. The rack gears comprise a wavy rolling curve (5) such that a wave crest of the rolling curve is engaged with a portion of rolling curve of the pinion in a center position of the steering that is small distance to the center of rotation of the pinion. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a steering pinion of a steering gear.
