Use of a multi-layered built-in roll (10) comprising a relatively soft inner layer (16) and a subsequent relatively hard and wear-resistant outer layer (18), as a coating roll, a glue roll or as a film press roll for surface finishing of paper, cardboard and pulp, is claimed, where the outer layer has a hardness of 5-100, preferably 5-80 Pusey and Jones (P and J), and the soft layer has a hardness of 20-180, preferably 30-150 P and J.
