The device (10) has a sterilization chamber (20) locked by a lid (30). A lance (60) protrudes into the chamber in a closed state of the chamber, where the lance is arranged at the lid. A steam generating device (40) is fluidly connected with a ventilation device (50) through the lance. A receiving device (70) i.e. autoclave bag, is arranged in the chamber for receiving a contaminated, medical and/or biological waste material (m), which can be sterilized during operation of the sterilization device. A protection device (80) partially receives the lance. An independent claim is also included for a method for sterilizing contaminated, medical and/or biological waste material.
