The device has an electronic control unit (ECU) (40) for diagnosing response behaviors of an exhaust gas sensor i.e. air-fuel ratio sensor (30), based on an output of the sensor. The sensor detects a gas condition in an exhaust gas flow outlet (210) of an internal combustion engine (2) in a vehicle. The ECU performs a regeneration process for regeneration of the response behaviors of the sensor. A diagnosis tool (50) instructs the ECU to perform the regeneration process when the ECU determines that the response behaviors of the sensor are reduced. An independent claim is also included for a method for managing an exhaust gas sensor.
