The device has a hydraulic drive (10) i.e. hydraulic cylinder, producing external hydraulic damping force relative to motion speed of oscillation of a support point of a lower roller (2) in an opposite direction. A hydraulic pulse generator includes a pressure side, which is in pressure connection with a cylinder part or a pressure line of the drive for adjusting a frequency of the force for operation in an opposite phase relative to the motion speed. The roller is supported on a frame (5) by a bearing housing (4) over an axis. An independent claim is also included for a method for controlling drivability of a handling nip.
