The method involves recording images of display units by each camera (1.1, 1.2), which is arranged in a common housing (1.3). A computer generated scene of a surrounding area of a vehicle is recorded by the camera and displayed using the display units. The recorded image data is compared with reference image-data, and/or data e.g. vehicle speed value, that is calculated from the recorded image data is compared with reference-data. A camera parameter is determined and evaluated, during the comparison, and a deviation of the camera parameter from reference-camera parameter is determined. An independent claim is also included for a device for testing a stereo-camera.
