The device (2) has a connection module (4) connected to terminals of accumulators (A1-An) of a battery (3) and configured to switch connections of the accumulators for alternatively connecting the accumulators in parallel or series. A loading module (5) provides charge current to the connection module. A control module (6) controls connections of the accumulators in series and application of the charge current on the accumulators in a charging mode, and controls connections of the accumulators in parallel in voltage balancing mode. An independent claim is also included for a method for recharging a battery.
