The device (10) has a maintaining device (18) comprising a set of slots (21) for temporarily maintaining parts (13) of optical fiber cores (11, 12) at two sides in order to pinch the components in elastic manner after the splicing operation. A thermal reinforcement is collectively realized on the parts to be spliced by a reinforcing element (16). A splicing mechanism (15) disposed on a work table comprises clamps (14a,14b) for maintaining the optical fiber cores. An independent claim is also included for a method for splicing optical fibers by fusion using an optical fiber splicing device.
