The method involves comparing temperature of cooled fume (4) with threshold temperature. Instantaneous power of a burner (1) is modulated based on temperature of heating fluid (3), a set point temperature and the comparison result. The instantaneous power of the burner is increased at a time of passage of the temperature of the cooled fume below the threshold temperature when the temperature of the heating fluid is equal to the set point temperature. The instantaneous power of the burner is maintained constant when the cooled fume temperature is equal to the threshold temperature. An independent claim is also included for a boiler, comprising a burner for generating combustion fumes.
