PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide melting furnace for metal production which is composed so that in the supply of a plurality of melting raw materials to the furnace, those materials can be conveyed from raw material storage tanks to a hearth while maintaining those compositions in a uniform state, and even after supplied to the hearth, both materials cause no phase separation in the hearth, and to provide a method for smelting metals using the above furnace.SOLUTION: The melting furnace for metal production is composed of: a raw material feeder for feeding the melting raw material; a hearth provided downstream of the feeder and holding the raw material; a heating source for melting the raw material into a molten metal; a mold for forming an ingot using the molten metal from the hearth; and an ingot pull-out machine for taking the ingot out of the mold. Among the side walls composing the hearth, the side wall positioning below the material discharge port of the raw material feeder is composed to incline inside the hearth.
