ABSORBABLE IMPLANT AND USE OF THE SAME IN HEMOSTASIS AND IN TREATMENT OF OSSEOUS DEFECT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbable implant relating to the management, treatment, therapy, and beneficial control of osseous conditions such as hemorrhage and defects.SOLUTION: There are provided an osteoinductive matrix containing components for improving control of osseous hemorrhage arising from surgical intervention or trauma and osseous healing with medically useful absorbable putty-like and non-putty-like compositions of finely powdered filler intimately admixed with dispersing vehicles. The composition includes: a component 1 which is finely powdered carboxylic acid salt comprising a carboxylate anion and a metallic cation; and a member selected from groups (a) to (g) of a component 2. The composition includes the member selected from the groups of: (a) (i) one kind or more esters of 8-18C monohydric alcohols and 2-6C aliphatic monocarboxylic acids, (ii) one kind or more esters of 2-18C monohydric alcohols and polycarboxylic acids, or (iii) the mixture of (i) and (ii); (b) monohydric alcohols having 8 to about 30 carbon atoms; (c) hydrocarbons having about 10 to about 14 carbon atoms; (d) free liquid saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acids; (e) (1) dialkyl ethers, alkyl aryl ethers or crown ethers or (2) block copolymers of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide; (f) dialkyl ketones having a boiling point higher than about 80°C; and (g) polyhydroxy compounds, polyhydroxy compound esters and polyhydroxy compound ethers.
