PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film transistor capable of reducing the production cost, and an image display device having the thin-film transistor, and to provide methods of manufacturing the thin-film transistor and the image display device.;SOLUTION: A thin-film transistor has: a first substrate; a gate electrode provided on the first substrate; a gate insulating film provided on the first substrate and the gate electrode; a semiconductor layer provided on the gate insulating film; a protection film provided on the semiconductor layer; and a source electrode and a drain electrode provided on the semiconductor layer and the protection film.
