PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sustain the battery capacity (discharge capacity) over a long time while improving the discharge characteristics.SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing a cadmium negative electrode for an alkaline storage battery includes a step for manufacturing a porous nickel substrate by coating a porous substrate with nickel slurry and then sintering the porous substrate, a step for immersing the nickel substrate manufactured during the pretreatment of an active material filling step in a cadmium salt aqueous solution having a concentration thinner than that of a cadmium salt aqueous solution for filling an active material and then drying the nickel substrate, and a step for filling the nickel substrate with cadmium hydroxide by repeating a step for immersing the dried nickel substrate again in the cadmium salt aqueous solution and an alkaline aqueous solution, and then washing the nickel substrate with water and drying a plurality of times.
