PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably determine a position of a portion of a subject such as the head of a person to be photographed through a simple system when determining the position of the portion in a subject position measuring apparatus and subject position measuring method.;SOLUTION: A portion of a subject is regarded as a sphere and a position of that portion is determined. Specifically, an apparatus extracts a contour image of the subject in each of images of that portion of the subject photographed using a camera in at least two directions in that image. Further, information on a contact position where the contour image and a search straight line extending in a first direction in the image are brought into contact is determined, thereby determining a first virtual straight line extending from the camera and being in contact with that portion of the subject for each of the contour images in a photographing space. Moreover, in the photographing space, a position of an intersection of second virtual straight lines resulting from moving the first virtual straight line in a direction corresponding to the first direction in parallel by a predetermined distance respectively, or a position of a point where the second virtual straight lines become closest to each other is determined as a center position of that portion.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
