PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method by which silica nanoparticles having a narrow particle size distribution and an average particle diameter of nm order (e.g., ≤100 nm) are inexpensively produced in a high yield and silica nanoparticles produced by the method, and to provide a labelling reagent excellent in reproducibility of a measured result and capable of high-sensitivity analysis of an infinitesimal target sample.;SOLUTION: The method for producing silica nanoparticles includes: adding a silane coupling agent to a reverse micelle disperse system comprising a surfactant in a hydrophobic solvent, water containing a basic electrolyte and a hydrophilic organic solvent; hydrolyzing the silane coupling agent with the water; and polymerizing a silica monomer to form silica nanoparticles.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
