PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain mesoporous silica which has excellent alkali resistance and is used suitably as a separation membrane such as a ceramic membrane to be used particularly in alkaline liquid or as a solid-liquid system catalytic carrier, and a composite material of the mesoporous silica, and to provide methods for manufacturing the mesoporous silica and the composite material of the mesoporous silica.;SOLUTION: The mesoporous silica has uniform masopores (pores), a regular periodic structure, a Si-O-Zr bond containing Zr element and 0.05-20 mol% Zr content as [Zr/(Si+Zr)] in the Si-O-Zr bond.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
