PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a label area detecting apparatus in which, even if an area occupied by a label being an object to be detected and a background area are made up of pixels belonging to color distribution similar to each other, the area occupied by the label is easily separated from the background area and a background area covered by a label is smoothly reproduced.;SOLUTION: Images of an object to be detected obtained by an image pickup means 11 are input to an input image storage means 12 in sequence and stored as a plurality of detected images dv2. A positioning means 13, a background image producing means 14, a background image evaluating means 15 and a background image storage means 16 together fill a label area in one of the detected images dv2 with an area in which no label is stuck in another detected image dv2, whereby a background image dv6 is output. A differential image producing means 17 and an output means 18 create a differential image dv7 between the background image dv6 and a detected image dvb that is input after production of the background image dv6, to produce a label image.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
