PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle group formation control device safely forming a group of vehicles without hindering a traffic flow when a vehicle newly merges with a vehicle or a group of vehicles.;SOLUTION: Sections where merging should be avoided, such as a branching/merging section 40, an uphill section 44, and a curve section 46, are set as avoidance areas E_n (n: an integer) based on map information, traffic information, and meteorological information. The other areas are set as merging recommendation areas F_n (n: an integer). A merging point (asterisk) is determined based on the set merging recommendation areas Fn, a merging vehicle, and the driving plan of a group of vehicles; the desired speeds and the desired accelerations of the vehicle C₁ and the group of vehicles C₂ are determined so that the vehicle will merge at the merging point.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
