PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument for measuring the eccentricity of an air gap and a method of measuring the eccentricity of an air gap, which can measure the eccentric state (amount of eccentricity and the direction of eccentricity) of the air gap of a motor, without requiring a high-accuracy vibration wave measuring system.;SOLUTION: This instrument is equipped with a rotating means 127 which rotates a rotor by applying voltage to a motor, where a rotor 103 is arranged via an air gap 100 in a stator 105 retained in a tubular casing 102; a transforming means 129 which changes the positional relation between the rotor 103 and the stator 105 by elastically transforming the periphery of the casing partially in the radial direction of the casing 102; a measuring means 118 which measures the magnitude of the vibration of the rotor 103, before and after elastic transformation of the periphery of the casing by the transforming means 129, that is arranged at the peripheral flank of the casing 102, and a computing means which computes the amount of eccentricity of the air gap and the direction of the eccentricity, based on the magnitude of the vibration of the rotor 103 measured with this measuring means.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
