PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a cleaning unit enabling the avoidance of inconvenience, capable of effectively performing cleaning, less receiving obstruction, and having long useful life.;SOLUTION: This cleaning unit 20 is for cleaning moving equipment capable of being shifted from an operating mode to a cleaning mode, and this method is used to perform a cleaning procedure for cleaning the moving equipment. The equipment to be cleaned is an escalator or a moving sidewalk having step plate unit connected to an endless conveyor. The cleaning unit 20 can be installed in place of the step plate unit of the moving equipment 1 during the cleaning procedure. The cleaning unit comprises cleaning elements 24 and 26.
