PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication system, a reception device, and a reception method that can improve an error rate and throughput. PSOLUTION: Provided is a reception device which receives a signal transmitted from a transmission device which modifies at least one of the modulation method and the encoding ratio. The reception device includes: an equalization unit which equalizes a reception signal in a frequency region; a demodulation unit which calculates a transmission bit reliability from the reception signal after being equalized; a mutual information amount calculation unit which calculates a mutual information amount according to the transmission bit reliability calculated by the reliability calculation unit; and a demodulation/encoding ratio information generation unit which sets at least one of the modulation method and the encoding ratio according to the mutual information amount calculated by the mutual information amount calculation unit and generates a signal for reporting the selected one to the transmission device.
