PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool having a hard coating layer capable of achieving excellent chipping resistance in high-speed heavy cutting.;SOLUTION: In this surface coated cutting tool, the surface of the tool substrate including WC-base cemented carbide and TiCN-base cermet is provided with: (a) a Ti compound layer as a lower layer; (b) a compound carbonitroxide layer of Ti, AI and Zr for satisfying a specific composition formula as a middle layer; and (c) a compound oxide layer of AI and Cr having an α type crystal structure in a chemical vapor deposition state for satisfying a specific composition formula as an upper layer. Further, the upper layer includes a compound oxide layer of AI and Zr for showing a specific constituent atom covalent lattice point distribution graph obtained by irradiating each of crystal grains having hexagonal crystal lattice that exists in the measurement range of a surface polishing face with an electron beam to measure an inclined angle made by normals of a (0001) face and a (10-10) face, the crystal faces of crystal grains, in relation to the normal of the surface polishing face.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
