PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coating cutting tool with a hard coating layer exerting an excellent chipping resistance and wear resistance in high-speed heavy cutting machining.;SOLUTION: On a tool base surface, (a) as a lower layer, a compound nitride layer of Al and Cr (and Si) expressed by a composition formula : (Al1-αCrα)N or (All-α-βCrαSiβ)N, (b) as an intermediate layer, a compound oxide layer of Al and Cr (and Si) expressed by a composition formula : (All-YCrY)203 or (Al1-Y-ZCrYSiZ)2O3, and (c) as an upper layer, a compound oxide layer of a composition inclination type of Al and Cr (and Si) expressed by a composition formula : (All-YCrY)1-XOX or (Al1-Y-ZCrYSiZ)1-XOX, and wherein an O (oxygen) containing ratio is decreased from the intermediate layer side toward the surface of the upper layer, are vapor deposition formed. Here, 0.25≤α≤0.45, 0.01≤β≤0.10, 0X≤0.2, 0.25≤Y≤0.55, and 0.01≤Z≤0.10(each of α, β, X, Y, Z is an atomic ratio).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
