PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool with a hard coating layer exerting excellent chipping resistance and wear resistance in heavy cutting work of a material to be cut having high welding performance.;SOLUTION: On a surface of a tool base comprising tungsten carbide group cemented carbide or titanium carbon nitride group cermet, a complex nitride layer of Al, Ti, and Si represented by a composition formula: (AlαTi1-(α+β)Siβ)N (wherein 0.50≤α≤0.65, 0.01≤β≤0.10 in an atomic ratio) is formed as (a) a lower layer by vapor deposition, a complex oxide layer of Al and Si represented by a composition formula: (Al1-YSiY)2O3 (wherein 0.01≤Y≤0.3 in an atomic ratio) is formed as (b) an intermediate layer by the vapor deposition, a composition tilting type complex oxide layer of Al and Si represented by a composition formula: (Al1-YSiY)1-XOX (wherein 0≤X≤0.1, 0.01≤Y≤0.3 in an atomic ratio) is formed as (c) a upper layer by the vapor deposition, wherein an O (oxygen) content proportion of the upper layer reduces from the intermediate layer side toward the upper layer surface.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
