A binocular slit lamp microscope (20) for observing a patient's eye (PE), comprises: an objective lens (61); binocular eyepieces (65); and a mechanism (75) that includes a plurality of optical systems (71a, 71b, 72a, 72b) and is arranged to switch the optical systems to be selectively placed in a predetermined position between the objective lens (61) and the binocular eyepieces (65) on an observation optical path, the mechanism (75) including a variable magnification optical system (71; 71a, 71b) for changing observation magnification and a viewing angle changing optical system (72; 72a, 72b) for changing a viewing angle between a right viewing path and a left viewing path.
