PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for stably producing a composite material sheet with stable thickness and quality at high speed without depending on the state of the liquid face of molten metal, and to provide a method for producing the same.;SOLUTION: Regarding the twin roll type vertical casting apparatus, a gate 20 for receiving molten metal 16 is provided on two water-cooled rotary rolls 12, 14 facing each other with an interval, the lower ends of the two planar main gates 22, 24 parallel to the rotary shafts 12A, 14A of the water-cooled rotary rolls 12, 14 are brought into contact with the surfaces of the water-cooled rotary rolls 12, 14, or form a gap of ≤2 mm with them, and the side faces of horizontal gates 42, 44 connecting the ends of the main gates 22, 24 are brought into contact with the surfaces of the water-cooled rotary rolls 12, 14 or form a gap of ≤2 mm with them.
