PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a target substance for screening, capable of effectively screening a substance suitable for preventing or treating hay fever.;SOLUTION: The target substance comprises a protease obtained by immersing cedar pollens in a sodium chloride aqueous solution and eluting the protease from the cedar pollens in the aqueous solution for 30 sec to 3 min. The protease has the following characteristics. (a) The protease has a mol.wt. of about 67,000 and has an N-terminal sequence comprising : Ala-Glu-Thr-Ala-Ala-Phe-Gly-Tyr-Thr-Val-Lys-Pro-Phe-. (b) The protease does not hydrolyze Suc-Ala-Ala-Pro-Phe-MCA as a fluorescent substrate, when there is diisopropyl fluorophosphates in a concentration of ≥2 mmol/L, but hydrolyzes the substrate, even when there is monoiodoacetic acid or pepstatin A. (c) The protease hydrolyzes the Ile 12-Leu 13 bond of neurotensin in an aqueous solution of pH 7.4 to pH 8.0. (d) The protease hydrolyzes the Thr 6-Ser 7 bond of β-endorphin in an aqueous solution of pH 7.4 to pH 8.0.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
