The present invention relates to a process for preparing optically highly pure compound of formula I, reacting 2 - ((2R) -2-hydroxy-3- [4- (3-oxo-4-morpholinyl) phenyl] aminopropyl) -1H-isoindole-1,3 (2H) -dione, the compound of formula III, containing (2S) -isomer, compound of formula IIIb with N, N-carbonyldiimidazole in tetrahydrofuran in the absence of the catalyst 4-dimethylaminopyridine, the reaction being carried out such that it is terminated when the reaction mixture still contains unreacted material III at which is between 3 and 5 times the original volume (2S) -isomer in a feed substance III.
