The present invention provides a method and system for providing partial usage of imported data models in an UPnP network. In one embodiment, a method includes the steps of sending a query for the data models exposed by one or more external organizations by an UPnP DM device, importing required individual data models into the UPnP DM device by applying translation rules, and attaching the imported individual data models to a UPnP data model of the UPnP DM device thereby forming a sub-tree of the UPnP tree. In another embodiment, a system includes one or more data models from external organizations hosted independently in different servers, at least one UPnP DM device for partial usage of the imported data models from the one or more external organizations, and a partial data model import handler to facilitate the import of data models to the UPnP DM device from one or more external organizations.Figure 2
