摘要

A magnetorheological (MR) finishing machine and a method for finishing surfaces having different shapes, particularly 3D-shaped surfaces, is described herein. The machine includes a rotatable Magnetorheological (MR) tool a workpiece and an MR tool comprising a linear member with a tip, an electromagnet coil, and a means for supplying MR fluid to the tip of the linear member. The MR fluid forms a stiffened ball end at the tip with the help of magnetic field produced by the electromagnet coil. The machine further includes a means for holding a workpiece being provided at the proximity of the tip and capable of moving in X and Y-directions. Further, a means for controlling the movement of the MR tool and the movement of the means for holding the workpiece relative to each other is provided.
