There is provided infrared shielding nanoparticles having excellent water-resistant property and excellent infrared shielding property, which is the infrared shielding nanoparticles of composite tungsten oxide expressed by a general formula WyOz and/or a general formula MxWyOz, with an average primary particle size of the nanoparticle being 1nm or more and 800nm or less, and a surface of the nanoparticle being coated with tetrafunctinoal silane compound or its hydrolysis product and/or an organic metal compound.
