Disclosed are synthetic peptide amides incorporating D-amino acids in the peptide chain that are kappa opioid receptor agonists. Also disclosed is the use of the synthetic peptide amides in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of a kappa opioid receptor-associated disease or condition in a mammal.
