Method for producing wood fibre composites which comprise wood fibres, and a combination of a thermoset resin and a thermoplastic resin

Disclosed are plastic-fibre composite products / pellets produced by a process which comprises: a) mechanically or thermomechanically or chemo-thermomechanically or chemo-mechanically breaking down a lignocellulosic material, or natural fibres to form loose or divided fibres or fibre bundles of a lignocellulosic material or natural fibres; b) applying to the product of a) a liquid or particulate binder formulation which comprises i) a thermoset resin (such as those which comprise urea formaldehyde or an isocyanate) and ii) an thermoplastic polymer (or monomer, or oligomer thereof) (such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl butyrate, polyester, polyacrylate, or starch based), wherein the thermoplastic polymer, monomer, or oligomer is present relative to the thermoset resin in a weight ratio up to about 50:50; and c) consolidating the product of b) into a solid product such as pellets or granules; wherein the plastic-fibre composite is useful as a feedstock in plastics manufacture, and particularly in the manufacture of composite fibre boards.
