Method of reducing the amount of lead released by the components of a water system, made in metal alloys containing lead when they are in contact with liquids intended for making beverages for human use, comprising at least the following sequential steps : - preliminary reduction of the amount of lead contained in the material constituting the components, - coating of the components thus treated, at least on the surface which comes into contact with the liquids, by the deposition of a tin layer, - coating of the components of the water system, at least on its surface that has been treated by depositing the tin layer, by the electrolytic deposition of a metal alloy coating.
