The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition and a functional health food composition including(Z)-12,13-dihydroxyoctadec-9-enoic acid, a compound derived from a peach kernel, for preventing or treating hyperpigmentation skin disorders caused by excess melanin production, and to a composition for whitening the skin. The compound derived from a peach kernel of the present invention,(Z)-12,13-dihydroxyoctadec-9-enoic acid, is a very useful invention for the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, since the compound is very effective for skin-whitening activity and effectively inhibits alpha glucosidase and melanin production, thereby preventing, treating, or improving hyperpigmentation skin disorders caused by excess melanin production.
