The invention relates to a method for determining a closing point in time of a valve having a coil drive. The method comprises (a) switching off a current flow through a coil (L_inj) of the coil drive, so that the coil (L_inj) is depowered, (b) measuring a time curve (110) of a voltage induced in the non-powered coil (L_inj), wherein the induced voltage is generated at least partially by a motion of the armature relative to the coil (L_inj), (c) evaluating the measured time curve (110) of the voltage induced in the coil (L_inj), wherein the evaluation comprises comparing the measured time curve (110) of the voltage induced in the depowered coil (L_inj) to a reference voltage curve (215, 415a) stored in an engine controller, and (d) determining the closing point in time on the basis of the evaluated time curve (110). The reference voltage curve (215, 415a) is thereby adapted to current operating conditions of the valve. The invention further relates to a corresponding device and to a computer program for determining the closing point in time of a valve comprising a coil drive.
