摘要
New polypeptide compsn. (A) comprises at least one protein (I) (or part of it) involved in resistance to glycoprotein antibiotics. (I) are identified by reference to a 10851 base DNA sequence (reproduced together with the amino acid sequence). They are VanH (encoded by bases 6018-6983); VanA (6977-7807); VanX (7816-8621) or VanC (10116-10598). Included is any protein (or part of it) which is (a) recognised by antibodies directed against the above 4 proteins or (b) encoded by a sequence which hybridises with (b1) one of the nucleotide chains identified by bases 6977-7807; 6018-6983; 7816-8621 or by a separate 1347 sequence reproduced in the specification, or (b2) the sequences (V1) or (V2). Also new are (1) purified proteins VanH, VanC, VanX, VanA, VanR (bases 3976-4668) and VanS (4648-5800); (2) nucleic acid encoding any of the preceding proteins (including complementary DNA or corresponding RNA); (3) recombinant sequences contg. this nucleic acid and regulatory elements; (4) recombinant vectors or host cells contg. such nucleic acid; (5) nucleotide probes (DNA or RNA) able to hybridise with (recombinant) nucleic acid; (6) mono- or poly-clonal antibodies (Ab) directed against the proteins.
