A low-carbon steel composition for the purpose of electrical conduction in electrolytic reduction cells and the like; the present invention more particularly a low-carbon steel, with less than 50 ppm carbon in its chemical composition for producing cathode bars (1), anode rods (2) used, for example, for producing primary aluminium (Al) by means of an electrical circuit provided in the electrolytic cells (Cb); the new low-carbon steel composition for the purpose of electrical conduction in electrolytic reduction cells and the like is intended to be up to 50% more conductive than conventional materials and reduces electrical losses by up to 33%, while maintaining the typical physical strengths of conventional steel, thus achieving greater electrical efficiency during the process of electrolytic reduction of alumina.
