The present invention relates to a method for detecting base dimers using gold nanoparticles, and to a rapid screening method for substances which promote base dimer formation using the same, and more specifically relates to a method in which gold (Au) nanoparticles and a salt are added to nucleic acid molecules, and then measurements are taken of colour changes or spectrum changes which result from changes in the affinity, for gold nanoparticles, of the nucleic acid molecules which undergo structural alteration when a base dimer is present. The method according to the present invention is advantageous in that it is possible to rapidly screen drugs which it is feared form basic dimers within nucleic acid molecule strands including light-sensitizing drugs such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and it can be used to advantage in the process of developing medicinal products. In addition, the invention is highly useful in that it can be used in various industrial fields including the field of developing cosmetics including UV blocker effect testing and/or the field of genetic engineering.
