The fastening device comprises a piston (2) mounted in a cylinder (8) for being propelled forwards therein and driving in turn a fastening member into a support material, under the action, in a combustion chamber (1), of an air and fuel mixture being ignited. It still comprises means (13) for, when the piston (2) is moved down forward of the cylinder (8), moving the piston (2) up backward of the cylinder (8), at the base of the combustion chamber (1). According to this invention, the upward movement of the piston compresses the gas contained in the cylinder (8) and the combustion chamber (1), the air and fuel mixture being formed by fuel injection upon the piston moving up.
