HYBRID COTTON PLANTS WITH IMPROVED FIBER QUALITY AND YIELD TRAITS

Increasing upland cotton diversity is essential to genetic improvement. Hybrid cotton plants generated during an advanced backcross-self of G. hirsutum introgressed with G. tomentosum are disclosed herein. Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) discovered during analysis of populations of the hybrid cotton plants are also disclosed. The QTLs are typically associated with commercially valuable traits, including, but not limited to, fiber length, fiber length uniformity, fiber strength, fiber fineness, fiber elongation, lint yield, lint percentage, boll number, and boll weight. Additional hybrid cotton plants, including seeds, and F2 progeny that contain one or more of the disclosed QTLs, and methods of making them are also disclosed.
