Disclosed are a method and a server for obtaining an operator routing number. The method comprises: a server receiving a query request from a client; the server querying whether a routing number of an operator to which a terminal corresponding to the query request currently belongs exists in a number portability database; if it exists, the server judging whether the RN of the operator to which the terminal currently belongs is an RN of an operator after the terminal switches operators with the original number; if the RN of the operator to which the terminal currently belongs is not the RN of the operator after the terminal switches operators, the server returning the RN of the operator after the terminal switches operators with the original number to the client. By use of the solution provided by the present invention, daily maintenance after the whole commercial application of the entire ENUM/DNS system may be effectively ensured, the investment required for adding the number portability function in the original multimedia message service environment may be effectively reduced, and the maintenance is convenient.
